A COMPLETE BIBLE OR A TENTATIVE BIBLE?
David C. Bennett (DCB), D. Min.
After a person comes by faith to the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour from the penalty and power of sin (Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith) and Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.), their new life is basically wrapped up in faith; faith in God and faith in God’s Word (2Corinthians 5:7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)!

I write in response to the article and statement published in the Life Bible-Presbyterian Church (BPC) Weekly of January 27, 2008, namely, (1) “Bearing False Witness” by the Rev Charles Seet, and (2) “An Appeal to VPP Proponents” by the Life BPC Board of Elders (BOE).1

This author was disheartened to see the evaluation of “Word-For-Word Translating” by John R. Himes, which my wife fortuitously stumbled upon on the internet. First, Mr. Himes did not contact the author before making these public crass pronouncements. He has the author’s email addresses and/or contact numbers. This omission is contrary to clear scriptural principles. Furthermore, the tone of his comments is not humble at all, but very prideful, derogatory, and libelous. If he is such a superior “linguist,” why hasn’t he written a book on translating in the English language? Perhaps he plans to do so, and that is the reason for his attack on this book and one of its authors (see below). Here are a few of his egregious mistakes:

The Libel of Michael Sproul against the Truth of God’s Infallible Preservation of His Inspired Words
By Dr. Jeffrey Khoo
Dean, Far Eastern Bible College and Seminary in Singapore
The attack against the Biblical doctrine of the special providential preservation of God’s inspired words in the original languages to the jot and tittle (Matt 5:18), and the faithful and accurate translation of those words into English in the Authorised or King James Version (AV/KJV) continue unabated. Recently, Dr Michael Sproul, Senior Pastor of the Tri-City Baptist Church and Board Chairman of the International Baptist College in Tempe, Arizona, USA, wrote and published a book entitled, God’s Word Preserved: A Defense of Historic Separatist Definitions and Beliefs. In this book he undermines the authenticity and authority of God’s forever infallible and inerrant words by misrepresenting the Biblical doctrine of Verbal Plenary Preservation (VPP) and writes slanderously against its proponents. He puts words into their mouths and says things they do not say. The Chinese proverb, “To draw a snake and add legs,” describes well Sproul’s libellous work.
